Purpose

Mount Macedon Primary School promotes a caring environment in which the staff, students, parents and community members can interact in a harmonious and constructive way.

Students are encouraged to participate in the formation of rules and practices, make informed decisions and accept the consequences of their actions. These practices encourage personal development and self discipline.

The school implements the TRIBES  approach in the classroom. “TRIBES is a democratic process, not just a curriculum or a set of cooperative activities. A process is a sequence of events that lead to an outcome. The outcome of the TRIBES process is to develop a positive environment that promotes human growth and learning.” – TRIBES A New Way Of Learning and Being Together – by Janine Gibbs.

This teaching strategy encourages children to become cooperative and interdependent learners. TRIBES focusses on: Mutual Respect, No Put Downs, Attentive Listening, Right to Participate, Right to Pass. TRIBES involves many inclusion activities so that all children feel a sense of belonging. It is a teaching process that encourages a positive learning environment for all children in the school .
