Purpose

Positive and responsible student behaviour is essential to the smooth running of the school, to the achievement of optimal learning opportunities, and to the development of a supportive and cooperative school environment.

Guidelines

·   To build a school environment based on positive behaviour, mutual respect and cooperation.

·   To manage poor behaviour in a positive and professional manner.

·   To establish well understood and logical consequences for student behaviour.

·   Care Create Cooperate is the school motto of Mount Macedon Primary School. Children are expected to  display the behaviours and attitudes of the school motto.

·    Care Create Cooperate is the fundamental basis and starting point for the Student Code of Conduct.

·    This policy is to be read in conjunction with the Anti Bullying policy and the Student Code of Conduct.

 

Implementation

·    The Tribes process will be a consistent approach applied across the school.

·    The school will develop a student code of conduct, which outlines agreed behaviours and management strategies.

·    The student code of conduct will place significant emphasis on the development and recognition of positive behaviours.

·    Individual management plans will be developed for students who require support to manage their behaviours.

·    Incidents of bullying will be managed according to the strategies outlined in the Anti Bullying policy.

·    Students experiencing difficulty achieving positive behavioural outcomes will be supported by programs provided by the school guidance officer and class social skills programs.

·    Mid and End of year reports  will include details regarding student behaviour.

·    Peer mediation and restorative practices will be key strategies employed to guide and develop student behaviour.

·    The school will celebrate good role models via Care Create Cooperate awards given out at assembly.

·    The school will provide a wide range of positive extra-curricula activities eg: sporting, theatrical, and leadership programs .

·    A record of  inappropriate student behaviour will be maintained by the Principal.

·    All staff will undertake professional development on student behaviour and discipline management.

·    The school curriculum will include programs to develop  resilience, positive choices, conflict resolution and leadership.

·    Consequences for ongoing inappropriate behaviour will involve a graded series of sanctions including counselling, withdrawal, loss of privileges or suspension. Along with these consequences students will be taught the skills to be able to demonstrate the behaviours of Care, Create, Cooperate.

·    Parents will be kept informed of student progress, and actively encouraged to assist in the development of their children’s behavioural performance.
