Mount Macedon Primary places emphasis on the development of skills, fitness and participation.

In 2010, we will introduce in the Early Years our Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) which develops gross and fine motor skills with emphasis on individual physical development and personal growth.

We emphasise good teamwork and sportsmanship. Our children participate in Interschool Sports within our region, which includes Summer Sports, Winter Sports, athletics and swimming.

p1000427Grade 4 students particpate in the Bike Education program, teaching the students about riding safely on the road, road rules and procedures. At the conclusion of the program the students participate our annual Williamstown Bike Ride using the skills that they learnt during the program whilst enjoying the views along the Maribynong River.

We also offer as part of the currciculum an Intensive 2 week Swimming Lessons program for all students at the school.

Reading Recovery provides an additional opportunity for children who are having difficulty learning to read and write.  The program complements the Early Years Grade One Literacy Classroom Program and identifies the needs of each child and then teaches them to overcome their literacy learning difficulties.Children participating in the program attend a daily thirty minute individual session. A child may participate in the program for twelve to twenty weeks. Each day the Reading Recovery teacher works individually with the child who:

  • Reads three or four familiar books to gain confidence in reading
  • Writes a sentence using their own ideas
  • Re-assembles the cut-up sentence to practise searching for words
  • Works with letters and words to assist in spelling
  • Reads a new book to further develop reading skills
